On Friday 25 November the Junior School held their Athletics Day. It was the hottest day of the year so far ( of course!! ) and their was some laughter, tears and fierce competition and the children had a marvellous day with everyone giving 110% effort to everything they did.
We had some great helpers from Room 1, so thank you to you all you were great helpers and role models. Here are some photos of us trying and triumphing!!

Chalk Art
Some of the children had a great art during Developmental today. They wanted to get the chalks out and draw on the wet concrete as they knew that drawing on wet concrete makes the pictures really bright and almost seem alive. They worked really hard and persevered until they had the job completed! Well done girls!!
Real Art Show
On the first day of this term we were able to visit an amasing Art Show. We got to look at lots of different types of Art and imagine that we stepped into the pictures and sculptures and explored what was going on in the picture etc We spend quite a bit of time just appreciating the various art works.

One week to go!!
Well its been another action packed term and we have only one week to go till the holidays. The children have all been superstars with how hard they have worked to achieve their next learning steps in all curriculum areas. I have been really pleased with the progress that I am seeing in all the children be it academic social or physical.
We are all looking forward to next friday as it is not only the last day of school but Red Nose Day and we will get to dress up and come to school with our red noses on. Red noses can be purchased in the classroom and a variety of shops and locations around New Zealand, the money raised is going to Curekids and the funds from Red Nose Day will go towards improving the health of children through research and its outcomes.
Stay safe and warm out there and all of us in Room 7 wish you a great holidays.

Every time a coconut!!
In Room 7 we managed to get hold of a Coconut to study and have a look at, most of the children had never seen one let alone cracked it open and tasted one. We named it spiky as it looked a bit like a hedgehog. It was a real fun experience shaking it and listening to the liquid slosh around inside!!
First we hypothesised what it may look/taste like, then we got Gary to drill a hole in it for us and crack it open. Upon tasting the coconut milk the reactions varied from fresh, and yummy to yuck and disgusting. But we all agreed that the coconut flesh wasn't too bad.
PS - did you know more people are killed every year by falling coconuts than are killed by sharks!!!

Fabulous Fish!!
For Art this term we have been studying construction, last week we made robots out of all sorts of recycled bits and pieces and this week we made 3D fish, we drew the template and coloured in our fish with pastel and then cut it out, staples it together and stuffed them with paper. We think they are pretty cool. What do you think?

Daily Fitness!!
Every day we do fitness, this can be a combination of different motor skills, balance and fitness activities. This helps us to get some more oxygen into our bodies and helps our brain have a bit of a break and a chance to recharge. It is an important part of our day and we love it even if it is wet we still do something in class. Today we practiced our skipping, Hoola Hooping and running.

Cross Counry
Last Thursday was Cross Country day and after a week of cold and cloud it dawned a beautiful sunny warm day, someone was looking after us!! What a success!! Everyone participated and gave it 110% effort so congratulations to everyone in the Room 7. We were lucky enough to have some people in Room 7 who placed in the top four in their age group and they get to go on to the Tri-School event on May 26 so well done. I was so proud of how you kept going and never gave up awesome work.
Library Visit
Last week we went on a visit to the Waimakiriri Public Library. We got a tour around the library and got to see everything that is available in the library for us to read and issue. We also got to see out the back where all the books are processed and fixed if they are broken, it was really interesting. Many thanks to the librarians who took the time to show us around. It was a shame that it was a wet day so we couldn't go to the park next door and have lunch!

Busy Bees
We have been very busy bees in Room 7 this week using our creativity to make all sorts of interesting things and creatures out of Betta Blocks. Brodie made an amazing Bumble Bee! Way to go Brodie! This week we have also been busy learning about the letter 'P' and what a blend is. Daylight savings are over now so it's not so hard to get out of bed in the mornings and all the Room 7 children certainly seem to have an abundance of energy which we are putting to good use in our PE unit learning how to throw and catch tennis balls.
